STEPHEN BIRD

Adelaide, Australia

Stephen Bird is a general sonographer living in Adelaide with over 30 years of clinical experience. He holds a General and a Vascular DMU and a Masters of Medical Sonography from the University of South Australia. He is an honorary fellow of ASUM and a life member of the ASA. He is a passionate educator, presenting regularly at national and international conferences as well as conducting weekend workshops for diagnostic medical ultrasound professionals. PROF GEORGE CONDOUS

Sydney, Australia

George Condous is Professor of Gynaecology at Sydney Medical School, Nepean, University of Sydney where he is the current Head of Discipline. He is also the current Head of Gynaecology at Nepean Hospital as well as Head of Gynaecological Robotic Surgery at Nepean Hospital. 

He is the current President of the World Federation of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB) and currently serving on the Board of Trustees for the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG). He was made a life member of the Australasian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM) in 2025. He is an ambassador for the World Endometriosis Society (WES). He is the lead of the International Deep Endometriosis Analysis (IDEA) group having developed the IDEA methodology on how to perform a ‘deep endometriosis’ ultrasound scan.

He is a world leader in the field of non-invasive diagnosis of endometriosis using imaging, has edited five books including the “How to Perform Ultrasonography in Endometriosis” (this has been translated into Mandarin and Spanish) and published over 300 papers in international peer-reviewed journals. 

DR EMMA ELLIS

Auckland, New Zealand

Emma is a Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and Subspecialist in Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) based at Auckland City Hospital, New Zealand. Emma has several clinical areas of interest, but is especially interested in pregnancy screening for abnormalities, ultrasound imaging in multiple pregnancies and improving Maternal and Perinatal Health in the Developing World.

Emma loves teaching and has been involved in teaching for a wide range of health professionals at a range of levels. She has been an ASUM DDU supervisor for many years. Emma has worked in Bhutan since 2006 assisting with the inception and development of a perinatal unit and countrywide network which is now established. Emma has also been involved in teaching in China and Samoa.

In 2010 Emma was awarded the inaugural Next Woman of the Year award for her work in the area of development of Maternity Services in New Zealand and overseas. Emma has been involved with the CMFM committee of RANZCOG as a committee member, examiner, Chair of examiners and recently Chair of the subspecialty committee.

A/PROF TRISTAN REDDAN

Brisbane, Australia

Tristan is the Consultant Radiographer/Sonographer at the Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane, a role in which he manages medical imaging research and provides paediatric sonography advice, as well as some clinical scanning. He is also a Clinical Associate Professor and Sessional Lecturer in Paediatric Ultrasound at QUT where he completed his PhD and continues to mentor and collaborate on research projects. Prior to focussing on paediatrics Tristan worked generally as a radiographer and sonographer in Newcastle and Sydney, and prior to that served in the Australian Army and the Royal Australian Air Force. He is the author of over 30 peer-reviewed publications, with over 250 citations. He is a member of the Australasian Sonographers Association (ASA) Research Special Interest Group, and was awarded an ASA Fellowship in 2018, ASA Sonographer of the Year - Queensland (2018 & 2021), and ASA Researcher of the Year (2019).
